What Will Therapy To Find Your Authentic Self Be Like?
Does all of this is sound like something you want for yourself? Well, this is what you can expect from working with us.
The First Session:
During the first session, you can expect us to take the time to make sure you understand what therapy will look like for you and what you can expect moving forward. Our goal here is to give you the chance to ask any and all of the questions you might have. We want to be as transparent as possible with you; that way, we are both on the same page. In the first session, I may talk to you about ways I have helped other people identify what they truly value, how they were able to achieve emotional authenticity.
The Next Couple of Sessions:
In the next couple of sessions, we will talk about your self-talk and the feelings associated with it. Everyone experiences these differently, so we want to know what it is like for you. We will also take some time to understand when these feelings may have first started and how they impact you. Many times, the emotions and beliefs we have came from somewhere were would not expect.
After we get to know each other, we will begin to come up with a plan for how we will use our time together. It is important to us that you have a say in how we proceed together. This is your journey, so we want you to have a say in working towards your goals. You have been living your life all this time; your experiences and insight are an important part of this plan! It is important to me that you are in control of this process. Afterall, it is your authentic self we are uncovering.
During these first couple of sessions, we are also slowly getting to know each other. It is totally normal to still have your guard up with any new relationship. We get it; feeling comfortable with a stranger takes time!
At the same time, not every therapist will jive with you. Give us 2-3 months, and if something still feels off, we would be more than happy to refer you to another therapist.
The Bulk of Our Work Together:
The bulk of our work together will be us looking at the aspects of your life that will be improved by becoming more genuine. Then, we will look at why you may be having difficulty living authentically and how you would like to encourage more love, satisfaction, and fulfillment in your life.
One of the things that I have found that helps clients working on authenticity is improving our self-esteem and self-talk. You are an incredible person who deserves happiness. Do you think so?
An important part of treatment with us is going to be “being non-judgmental.” Being here and making the brave choice to reach out means you have already committed to working towards a more satisfying life. You have already made that commitment. There is no need to beat yourself up when you have already chosen to work on it.
When we begin therapy, we can sometimes learn things about ourselves that are not easy to see. Sometimes we want to judge ourselves for what we see. But remember, it is hard to be authentic and genuine if we keep judging ourselves. We will work together to help you push back against that urge to judge ourselves.
Despite all of this information, the number one thing you can expect from us is we will meet you where you are at. Our goal is to help you reach the goals you set for yourself, however big or attainable they are. With us, you are the one deciding where we go. We know you are worth the effort, and we want you to see that too. It has taken a lot of courage to make this choice to start therapy, I hope you can show yourself that compassion and gratitude for whatever comes next.
