Just because you’ve faced challenges or frustrations in the past doesn’t mean you’re doomed to a life of anger and conflict. Therapy for anger management can help and offer a path to greater calm and control. Get a hold of your anger problems and learn what else you can do when you feel angry.
Learning to be intentional with our reactions can retrain our body and mind, helping us regain control over our emotions and responses. Let us guide you through taking charge of your emotions and reactions. Your life, after all, belongs to you. Uncontrollable anger is a mental health condition that we can work on together.
The type of therapy I offer aims to help you feel more composed, less reactive, more positive, and like you’re actively participating in life with a balanced approach. We’d be honored to be a part of yours. The people you love and care for will be grateful for the work you put into controlling your anger.
What Will Therapy for Anger Management Be Like?
Are you interested in what this path entails? Here’s what you can expect when working with us:.
The First Session: Learn How A Therapy Can Help
In the first session, I’ll make sure you understand what therapy will look like for you and set clear expectations moving forward. My goal is to address all your questions. Our goal is to be as transparent as humanly possible.
In this session, I’ll share how I’ve assisted others in managing their anger and will be open to all your questions about our approach. This is your opportunity to get a feel for my therapeutic style. In the very first session, we will take a brief look at the coping skills and relaxation techniques you have used to control your anger in the past. Despite what your anger may feel like, anger is a normal emotion, and you have a long life to find ways to cope with it .
The Next Couple of Sessions: Better Understand the Causes of Anger And How To Cope
Over the next few sessions, we’ll discuss how you experience anger and frustration, acknowledging that everyone’s experience is unique. Anger is a normal and healthy emotion to have. A lot of the most important changes in society have happened because of anger. We’ll also explore past coping strategies you’ve used, identifying what has or hasn’t worked for you.
As we get to know each other, we’ll start developing a tailored plan for our sessions together. Your input is vital in this process; your experiences and insights will shape our approach. Managing anger is a combination of learning to healthily express anger and leveraging the skills you have already learned.
During these initial sessions, it’s normal to be cautious about a new therapeutic relationship. Comfort with a new therapist takes time, and not every mental health professional is the right fit for every client. If, after 2-3 months, you feel the fit isn’t right, we’re more than willing to refer you to someone else.
The Bulk of Our Work Together: Anger Expression
My main focus will be understanding your past responses to anger, how you express your anger, how they’re affecting you now, and exploring new, healthier ways of managing your emotions. Talk therapy is a great place to get ahold of anger issues. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) will help us collaboratively manage your anger.
One effective technique we might explore is mindfulness, which helps in finding a state of calm and control. We’ll spend time developing and practicing these skills at your own pace.
The most important aspect of therapy for anger management is ensuring you feel confident in your new coping skills and are comfortable applying them intentionally. We won’t rush you; your comfort and readiness are our top priorities.
In all of this, the key expectation is that we will meet you where you are. Our goal is to support you in achieving your personal goals, no matter how challenging they may seem. With us, you’re in control of your journey. We believe in your potential and want you to see it too.
