Welcome to New Perspectives Counseling Services

At NPCS, we believe therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience—it’s a tailored journey guided by real connection, deep respect, and genuine curiosity about what matters most to you. Our practice is grounded in an authentic, collaborative approach: we listen first, ask earnest questions, and walk alongside you in full transparency.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or at a crossroads in your life, we’re here to hold space beyond just “fixing problems.” We invite you to be seen, to be heard, and to bring your whole self into the work—because healing begins when it’s honest.

Why NPCS Is Different

  • Authentic Presence
We are real people, not clinical caricatures—our goal is to meet you where you’re at, without judgment.

  • Warmth with Grounded Insight
We believe empathy is essential. We also believe it’s equally important to offer perspective and honest feedback when it supports growth.

  • Collaborative, Not Directive
You set the pace, choose the path. Our role is to help guide, support, and illuminate.

One of the things we value most in a therapeutic relationship is authenticity. You could always smile and say things are going well and that therapy is helping—but if it’s not, we want to know. We believe you play just as important a role in this relationship as we do.If this approach sounds like something you’re interested in and you live in Maine, we would be honored to begin this therapeutic journey with you. Meet Our Therapists

NPCS began as a one-person practice, but the need for honest, judgment-free care kept growing. To serve that need, I invited two like-minded clinicians to join me. Each brings a unique style and expertise, but we’re united by one goal: helping you move from feeling stuck to feeling hopeful.

Hey there! I'm Derek Guerrette LCPC, NCC

As a therapist, I appreciate that your life’s journey is unique. You are the only one who knows what is best for you. I specialize in assisting and empowering clients to heal from past experiences. I use evidenced-based techniques and an accepting environment to empower you to navigate through life’s challenges with more confidence, poise, and humor.

While working with me, you can expect a compassionate, genuine, trauma-sensitive experience that uses your strengths and humor to invite growth and healing into your life while also encouraging you to express yourself authentically. This is your journey. You are worth the effort.

Hi, I'm Elizabeth Bell-Jalbert, LCPC

I offer a calm, compassionate space for adults and couples who feel worn out from carrying too much for too long. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, past trauma, or just trying to keep it together for everyone else, I’ll meet you where you are—with honesty, warmth, and care.

In our sessions, I bring curiosity, patience, and gentle guidance. I know healing takes time, and I’m here to walk alongside you as you sort through what’s heavy and move toward something lighter. You don’t have to do this alone.

Hello, I'm Emily Goode, LCPC, LADC

I work with adults who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Whether it’s anxiety, depression, substance use, or big life stressors—you’re not alone. I offer a steady space to pause, breathe, and talk through what’s going on.

You can expect open, honest conversation, a little humor, and a down-to-earth approach. I’m not here to judge or fix you—I’m here to help you explore what matters, clarify what you want, and figure out what’s getting in the way. Together, we’ll move toward something that feels more like you.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Right now, we do not have a waitlist. So if you reach out now, and we decide we are a good fit, we will be able to get you scheduled for your first appointment by the end of the week.

We know how frustrating it is to call around, just to get seen. That’s why we do everything we can to return initial phone calls/get you scheduled as soon as we can.

Currently, the only insurance we accept is Maine Community Health Options. Depending on the insurance you have, we may be able to see you as an out of network provider. To learn more, read this article.

Our goal is to be as flexible as possible with scheduling and billing, in an effort to provide the best therapy possible to our clients. Unfortunately, insurances require a lot of information to be disclosed about you (like your diagnoses and the notes from our sessions), a lot of paperwork, and reduced flexibility in treatment (insurance companies will say what they want you to work on and how often we could meet…). In our experience, insurance has made it harder to provide top level care for the people we see. You are the expert in your life, so lets work on what you feel is most important.

We are hyper-focused on being flexible and available to current clients. In order to make sure we are providing the best quality psychotherapy to the people we see, the most privacy possible, and getting you the care you want, we made the choice to limit the insurances we accept. Not accepting insurances helps us focus on what matters, you and your therapeutic journey. Our priority is you, not keeping insurance companies happy.

It has also been our experience that most insurance companies will allow you to see an out of network provider. This means we can meet, we will provide you with what is called a Superbill, and you bring it to the insurance company to be reimbursed. Again, doing it this way means you have more privacy.

We are passionate about helping people live more authentic lives by overcoming past difficult experiences. While trauma therapy is our primary specialty, we also love working with people who are looking to be more assertive and effective communicators, those looking to overcome social anxiety, those looking to reframe anxious or negative thoughts, and those who are seeking to be more comfortable showing up as their true selves in life.

For all of these concerns, therapy will be empowering, sincere, and have a healthy dose of laughter. We utilize affirming and empowering language, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Quieting, and aspects of Internal Family Systems/parts work (to help with complete self-acceptance).

Our goal is to be as transparent as possible. Our fee is $135 per hour. If you would like to work together but are worried about the cost, we could explore biweekly or even monthly therapy.

First, you will need to reach out to your insurance company to check to see if they will allow you to see an out of network provider. Once you verify that, you will want to reach out to us so we can get you set up for your first appointment.

During that first appointment, we will talk to you about how you will get a superbill, the information that is on it, and how you can provide that to your insurance company to get reimbursed. For a superbill, you will still need to pay the fee for therapy up front.

Our office is locate in Bangor. The address is 336 Mt Hope Avenue, Bangor Maine. For more thorough directions, click here.

We offer both telehealth and in person therapy! We make it a point to be flexible. There will be some days where the weather is treacherous. It is not uncommon that we do a mixture of both in person and telehealth with our clients over the course of their time with us.

What Can You Expect From Therapy With Us?

Unconditional
Respect & Compassion

We are all on our own journey. The path every person has taken will look different. These differences are what make us unique. The path you have taken is what makes you special.

A New Perspective

Our jobs as therapists is not to “fix” you. We believe you have that power already. My job is to help you think in new ways while exploring your world. Sometimes we get stuck looking at things from one perspective so long, we forget there are others out there.

A Healthy Dose of Humor

I have been told that my humor is what helps people feel comfortable with me. After getting to know me, you will learn that I try not to take myself too seriously. Sometimes laughter is what gets us through our darkest times.

Do You Need Immediate Support?
